Many people know how to use and use USB on a daily basis. USB has become a huge convenience for most people. It has allowed for the creation of external hard drives, USB flash drives, and even the ability to hook up devices, such as cell phones, straight to a computer. Now enter Wireless USB.

Wireless USB is different as it uses ultrawide band technology. This means that it emits the wireless signal in a larger area of effect that may not travel as far but cover a wider range. Wireless USB also runs on a higher signal so that it doesn’t affect other devices. Currently the range is set from 3.6 Ghz to 6.0 Ghz, however it may get as high as 10 GHz.

Wireless USB can be a handy tool for linking your devices into to share them. A good example of this is the ability to hook a printer into it and share your printer. This will eventually open the door to having very little clutter on your desktop or trying to figure out how to hide a cord. The Wireless USB setup consists of a hub and a transmitter that ironically plugs into a USB port.

One problem that has arisen so far with the Wireless USB setup is that it doesn’t work with all USB devices. Some of the hubs won’t work with certain devices such as an iPod, while others won’t work with an external DVD drive.

While this technology can be very useful it’s still rather new. While it’s supposed to be able to handle 480 Mbit/sec of data transfer it’s not even close to that currently. If you’re looking for speed then you’ll want to stick to wired USB as it delivers speeds that are 3 to 4 times as fast as Wireless USB. However if you’re looking for convenience and a better appearance you may want to consider getting a Wireless USB setup.
