It appears that thin is indeed in, that’s why Sony came up with its new LCD TV. Sony released the world’s thinnest flat-panel display KDL-40ZX1M.
The new LCD TV’s panel only measures 9.9mm or .39 inches deep. However it is undetermined how the TV will measure once the base is included, but no one is disagreeing that it still be the thinnest.
Based on the company’s press release, the new LCD TV will feature an “edge-lit” LCD backlight. While that may sound new to you, many tech enthusiasts speculated that it was the technology used by Sony that allowed them to trim the size of a regular LCD panel very thinly. The only question right now is that whether the “edge-lit” LCD panel can provide a high quality image or not. After all, there may be a very few people who are willing to sacrifice performance for aesthetics.
The image released by Sony indeed shows how thin the KDL-40ZX1M LCD is. If you put it beside the current 3-to-5-inch thick panels that are found in the market, the latter might simply look Jurassic.
