Philips released what it considers to be another first in the market. The new LCD TV widescreen cinema with 21:9 ratio is something more than newsworthy.

Usual TVs leave big black borders on the top and bottom of the screen when watching films, this is both for DVDs and other formats, whether HD or not. The culprit is the display ratio of 16:9 widescreen TVs. They may be widescreen but they are either not wide enough or they can be simply out of proportion. Philips new TV solves that by introducing Cinema 21:9, which according to Philips is the “planet’s first cinema-proportioned LCD TV.”

As to not sound like a press release, here are a few details that are worth mentioning. The TV measures 56 inches wide. Yes, it is a big screen that will make you think of film viewing the moment you see it. It uses Ambilight technology.

This will be released this Spring in Germany, Belgium, the UK and France. There is no US release date yet.
