Nikon prepares an early holiday gift for serious hobbyists and professional photographers. This is the new Nikon with GPS dongle called GP-1.
This new camera top was first announced in August, and since then has earned a lot of expectations from the camera crowd. The camera top is useable in Nikon D200, D3, D700, D90, D300 models as well as the newly launched D3X camera.
The GPS unit for digital camera records the positional information where the image was taken to the file. This date can later be used in geo-tagging images. Geo-targeting images is the latest trend in inputting data to digital images to improve image search as well as image integration into online services such as Flickr.
GP-1 has flashing blinkenlights. These are green and red LEDs that indicate the number of satellites your GPS have been locked onto. This will let you know that the GPS data you will get is at the very least accurate.
Nikon GP-1 will be available for $240.
