Lenovo made a move in strengthening computer security by improving its defense against unauthorized data access on Lenovo ThinkPad notebooks.

The company made this possible with its newly developed technology dubbed as Constant Secure Remote Disable feature. Thru this feature, users who just lost their laptop can send a simply text message containing commands of total laptop lockout. Users can use the commands “lockdown now PC” or “PC shut off” and PC will lockdown itself.

The company joined hands with Phoenix Technologies to come up with this system. However old ThinkPad models will not have this technology as the company plans to input this system in their laptops by next year. Starting the first quarter of 2009, all ThinkPads will sport this security feature.

Lenovo built the system following an alarming report from the 2008 CSI Computer Crime and Security Survey where it revealed the 42 percent of computer attacks and incidents among U.S. organizations in both private and public sectors occurred as a result of notebook PC theft. The company sees security vulnerabilities a very serious issue.

The lockdown will prevent access to computer’s data and files.
