In two years time, a major leap in handset technology will be seen – the release of 3-Dimentional or 3D handsets. According to Infosys, they have come up with a device that can routinely beam 3D content, films, games and virtual goods in your mobile receiver.
The device will capture 3D instead of 2D images of the surrounding world. This device is seen to aid a lot of industries that rely on realistic depictions of subjects such as accident investigators, teachers, and doctors who remotely diagnose a case.
The technology used in developing this 3D handset is based on a powerful onboard processor. It captures a series of 2D images and then converts it into 3D holograms using special algorithms called “Fourier.” This algorithm is the one responsible in calculating and virtually creating the third dimension.
The project already received a patent by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. The device allows 3D holographic images to run through present communications highways by sending only the raw data to be translated into the 3D hologram at the other end. This system allows it to be feasible so there is a great chance that we will really be seeing these things in 2010.
The device that Infosys created will both send and receive these 3D images. It will have a projector with a laser source and micro holographic optical elements lenses – talk about living a Sci-Fi era today.

It’s about time. 3D applications have been in development for over 20 years and still all we really have is paper “3D” glasses and some really weak “virtual” gaming specs (one size does not fit all). iPhone 5G 3D?
