Microsoft has had a lot of controversy over its new version of Internet Explorer. At the first glance it looked like it was going to be ugly with many users switching back to IE7. Over a week the amount of users went from 2.59% down to 1.17%. This signifies that IE8 users prefer IE7 even though IE8 is supposed to be faster, more convenient, and more user friendly.
However, it appears that IE8 is actually the best anti-malware browser that you can have. It was recently put up in a test against several other internet browsers including IE7, Firefox, Safari, Google Chrome, and Opera.
When the 6 browsers were put against each other IE8 emerged as the victor protecting users from over twice as many attacks. Out of 492 attacks IE8 RC stopped 69% while Firefox only stopped 30%. The other browsers hung in there with Safari blocking 24%, Google Chrome blocking 16%, Opera blocking 5%, and IE7 only blocking 4%.
Many of the users that don’t use Internet Explorer steer away from it for the reason that it can’t protect them the way other browsers can. We can see why if it only protected users from 4% of attacks. However it seems that Microsoft has improved IE8 to compensate for where IE7 and the other IE versions lacked.
Although many users may have a hard time switching back to Internet Explorer after being with another browser, it may be their best option to help stop malware. If you haven’t gotten a chance to try IE8 you may want to try it. Besides offering the best protection out there, IE8 also have other major improvements over its predecessors in other departments. Many of the features that are available in other browsers are also now available in IE8. Microsoft has clearly tried to gain its internet browser reputation back.
