Hitachi changed the way we look at internal hard drives with its launch of the 1 Terabyte hard drive early this year. And if you are still in celebration of that breakthrough, prepare yourself, because Hitachi is not done surprising you.

Hitachi recently announced that they modified the 1 TB Deskstar drive. It is now more powerful and more efficient. The new Deskstar 7K1000 .B hard drive as they call it uses 43% less power.

The “.B” in the name means that users can now get this new product without having to worry that it will suck loads of power more than any other piece of hardware. Technically it will still need a lot of power but not much as before according to the company.

The new hard drive includes a SATA II Interface that transfers at a fast rate of 3Gb/s. It has a 7200 rpm speed and an optical hardware-based Bulk Date Encryption system which reduces file corruptibility.

There is no announcement yet as to the specifics of release date and the retail price of this power hard drive. So until then, don’t download too much stuff.
