Giga-byte, Chunghwa to Release Linux M528 MID in AugustTwo giant companies, Giga-byte Technology and Chunghwa Telecom teamed up to launch the Linux M528 mobile Internet device in August.

Giga-byte Technology is a Taiwan-based electronics maker while Chunghwa Telecom is a successful mobile service provider.

With a 4.8-inch touchscreen, M528 is not your ordinary internet mobile phone. It runs on a Linux Operating System and uses an 800MHz Intel Centrino Atom microprocessor. The device is engineered to give people a device that can help them surf the Web just about anywhere. One major difference of the M528 with other mobile phones is its wide touchscreen. In fact, M528 outranks other mobile phones in terms of screen size by as much as three inches.

Users of the M528 can access the Web thru a number of ways. The device is packaged with 3G service from Chunghwa Telecom. The service allows the unit to operate HSDPA/HSUPA (High Speed Downlink/Uplink Packet Access) Web surfing. Another option for internet access is its Wi-Fi 802.11b/g.

The unit weighs 340 grams. With a dimension of 152millimeters by 80mm by 22.5mm, the unit possesses a complete Qwerty keypad. This enables the phone user to have a more satisfying Web and computing experience. It is also packed with a 3 MP auto-focus camera and a 300k Web cam for video calls. The M258 also contains a backlight that slides out from underneath. It is a Bluetooth 2.0 device, has USB ports, a micro-SD card slot and an SSD of 4G.

Giga-byte is yet to announce the price of the product.
