For the second time recently Facebook was attacked by phishing schemes. The schemes were designed to get users to click on a link that took them to an external site. Once there the external site would take the users login information.

The company was able to stop both attacks in a timely fashion. This is due to its tools and security features which allowed for the company to detect the worms and get rid of them. Due to the attacks, Facebook has decided to increase its security by using more of MarkMonitor’s AntiFraud software to help protect users from attacks like this in the future.

One reason that hackers want to get access to the networking sites is because they can take the users that they’ve infected and use the site as a way of distributing anything that they want. The havoc that can be caused by malware and worms is enormous and if they were able to get through the sites security and on to your computer then you may have several issues yourself.

The problem with popular networking sites such as Facebook and Myspace is that they are always under attack or have someone trying to break their security measures. While Facebook may always be under attack by outside sources we can only hope that they put in stronger security measures to stop breaches like this from happening in the future.

It’s kind of surprising that only Facebook has been under attack in the news lately. The company has been dealing with a lot of unhappy users due to its policy changes and now actual attacks against its website. It makes one wonder if the two are related. Maybe it’s some of the unhappy users rebelling against the company as it seems to be the only one that has been actually attacked lately.
