hard diskioSafe has recently announced their new hard disk that can withstand fire and water. It is claimed that this is the first hard disk of its kind. The new hard disk is capable of resisting water and fire at emergency cases and thus protects the data stored on it in disasters. The product is important not only to businesses, but also to individuals or families that want to keep their data safe from water or fire.

For fire protection, the new hard disk’s plastic tapes on the inside melt at 250F and immediately close the drive and block airflow. The hard disk is capable of surviving temperatures of up to 1400F for 15 minutes.

The hard disk is also protected against salt or fresh water damage in any scenarios of full submersion or just a few splashes. The disk is guaranteed to survive for 24 hours in up to 5 ft. of water.

ioSafe also offers a data recovery service in case the hard disk is damage. The service is free of charge and is activated through registration. The hard disk is of course more expensive than regular hard disks. A 8oGB drive will cost $330 while a 200GB costs $460.
