Western Digital finally unveiled the soon to be famous 2TB Caviar Green HD.

Yes, you read it right, it is 2TB, not 1TB, not 1.5TB and on top of that it has the environment-friendly green label. Western Digital Caviar Green HD is the first 2TB internet hard drive in the world and it is now available at a price of $299.

The hard drive is 3.5-inch in size and has 32MB cache. It uses WD’s unique 500GB per platter technology.

Among the first groups to be able to get a hold of this soon to be hot stuff is the HotHardware. The group tested it and the results were nothing short being good. Tech analysts are now fitting the Caviar Green against Samsung’s Spinpoint F1 and Seagate’s Barracuda 7200.11 as these two are the only hard drives close enough to be used for comparison.

Mark Geenen, President of Trend Focus noted that the WD Caviar Green, being a 2TB HD will be embraced by the public very soon, citing that around 10 percent of the 3.5-inch hard drive sales are at the 1 TB level or higher. This is after there were speculations that 2TB HD isn’t really for the public.
