Iomega unveiled two additional types of eGo portable hard drives.
First on the list is the Encrypt. If it sounds like it is very secured, well that is because that is the unique selling point of that particular external drive. Encrypt claims to have an ultra-secure system that uses hardware-based encryption for double data protection. It has an advanced 128-bit Advanced Encryption Standard (AES).
Second portable HD is the BlackBelt. It is powerful and uses Drop Guard Xtreme data protection.
The eGo Encrypt tips the scale at 320GB, while the eGo Blackbelt has 250GB capacity.
eGo Encrypt requires users to enter password anytime the external hard disk is connected to a PC. This is its first line of security. Upon disconnecting to PC, the portable hard drive will automatically lock itself and will prompt for user password. The software that Encypt uses for security is preloaded on the hard drive.
The other hard drive, Blackbelt is identical to Encrypt; the only obvious difference is their storage capacity.
These new drives have Iomega’s Drop Guard Xtreme. It is a system that protects data from physical damage. It also comes with EMC Retrospect Express HD software that automatically backs up data and files.
All the portable drives can work on Windows 2000, XP and Vista, while the BlackBelt can also work on Mac OS X. The BlackBelt priced at $120 and Encrypt costing $150.
