Sonly unveiled PRS-700, the second electronic book / pdf file reader to hit U.S.
Sony PRS-700 is a special device that comes fully upgraded. It has a 6-inch electronic paper display similar to its predecessor, the PRS-505. Unlike the PRS-505, the new model sports a touch panel and a reading light support. The touch panel allows users to turn in the page of an e-book by simply tapping the screen. Users can also use the fully functional keyboard or stylus to highlight e-book texts. The light allows the gadget to be used even in dark areas.
This e-book reader can store about 350-ebooks in its built-in memory. The memory can be upgraded as it has support for Memory Stick or SD Card. According to Sony, PRS-700’s battery can last up to 7,500 pages of continues reading (that really depends on how fast or slow you read). This e-book reader can ready different e-book and file formats including Sony’s very own BBeB (Broadband electronic book), Adobe PDF, Microsoft Word documents and the International Digital Publishing Forum’s XML-based EPUB format.
Sony is yet to fully disclose the details of the new product. However, many tech experts assume that it will likely weigh less than the original PRS-505. PRS-505 tips the scale at 260 grams.
PRS-700 will be up for grabs this November. It will cost $400, 25% or $100 increase in price compared to the previous model.
