The former del.icio.us is now simply known as delicious.com. Yahoo Inc., owner of the social bookmarking site dropped the dots to make its name simpler, coinciding with the network upgrades done to the site.
Delicious now loads pages faster too! In a statement issued by the social network, they said that the new platform will enable them to keep up with traffic growth while ensuring Delicious is both responsive and reliable. The site currently has more than 5 million users.
The site also changed the framework of its internal search engine, making user searches more powerful by integrating it with tags and personal bookmarks from users.
Another important change is in the aspect of usability. Users can now opt to see delicious bookmarks alphabetically.
The old domain with a lot of dots caused confusion and spelling errors. The old URL will divert the user to the new domain, where users will be required to log in.
Delicious is among the most popular social bookmarking sites. It has grown from 300,000 to 5 million users over the past three years. It currently hosts over 150 million bookmarked URLs.
