Facebook and Microsoft had long ago combined the services they offer. Today, the two giants further strengthen their tie-up through a big advertising move.
Microsoft will soon power Facebook’s onsite web search. The corporation will also supply advertisement to the social networking site. Experts agree that Facebook’s humongous traffic will surely bring more revenue to Microsoft.
The idea was announced in Microsoft’s annual financial analysts meeting in Redmond. There is nothing Facebook users should be worried as there will be no outstanding changes to the site’s design and interface.
Facebook will also incorporate a special API from Microsoft.
This business deal between Facebook and Microsoft reflects the Google and MySpace tandem two years ago. Google paid $900 million for MySpace’s search box ad spots.
That deal touches the whole of Fox’ network, which include Rottentomatoes.com, Gamespy.com, fox.com, americanidol.com, and others. The deal also made Google avail of the advertising rights in these sites.
The amount as to how much Microsoft expended to nail the deal with Facebook was not disclosed. Last October, Microsoft invested $240 million in the site to have an exclusive spot for advertising.
