Who has never heard of the infamous Bill Gates? Anyone who ever owned a personal computer or has ever used one knows about the great Bill Gates. Here is a little about his story. When he was attending Harvard University back in 1975, he knew that something was coming in the way of technology and he wanted to be the front-runner so to speak. So he dropped out of university to start what is now the biggest software company in the world, Microsoft Corp. His dream was to put a computer on every desk in every home in the world and that dream is pretty much fulfilled.

Thirty years later, Bill Gates is planning to step down from his throne from the biggest software company in the world on Friday to work full time with an organization that was formed for charity of course called—The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, this was all made possible due to Mr. Gate’s big fortune that he has made over the years.

He is far from being the richest man in the world, as he once was; now he has been knocked from that pedestal by Mexico’s telecoms tycoon Carlos Slim and investor Warren Buffett. Gates was once quoted as saying that great wealth brings with it great responsibility. This is very true when you sit and think about it. Now at 52 years old you would figure that he would just sit back and relax now that his work is done. But as stated he will leave behind a high-tech existence of developing software and now try to find ways of finding new vaccines and micro-financing projects in the developing world.

Now remember that Bill gates is the biggest shareholder in Microsoft and he has decided that he will stay on as Chairman and only work on special technology projects, so yes, he will keep his hand in the cookie jar so to speak. After all, he has an 8.7 percent stake in Microsoft, which is worth about a cool $23 billion dollars.

Another thing that people are not aware of is that at the age of 13 Bill programmed his first computer, creating a class scheduling system for his Seattle high school. Later on, as he got more experienced with computers, he started to realize that he could create software that would change how people communicated, worked and even played.

To quote Bill Gates from his 1995 book “The Road Ahead” he says, “When I was 19, I caught sight of the future and based my career on what I saw. I turned out to have been right”. This excerpt shows that Bill realized at an early stage in the PC revolution that software itself would be more important than hardware. He worked with his friend since childhood, Paul Allen and founded Microsoft; they named the company for its mission of providing microcomputer software.
