FeedBurner, owned by Google, announced that it will launch AdSense for RSS next week. This is accordinging to a post on the FeedBurner’s blog. Just like the Google AdSense for Web content publishers, AdSense for RSS feeds will show text advertising in publisher’s RSS feeds based on their content. Put differently, if you’re reading a blog post about cellular phones in Google Reader, you will probably find advertisements for AT&T or Sprint.
This is great news for web content publishers. It has been already known that monetization on RSS feeds has been poor when put in comparison to Website advertisements, and with the increase in action taking place off-site, this is huge trouble for the web publishers. And since RSS feeds now can bring more money, the websites with no or partial RSS feeds, such as CNET, can now start publishing full RSS feeds with more ads.
Google has apparently forgotten about FeedBurner since it acquired it. But now, since it has succeeded in adding more money to RSS feeds, The deal is a real success. Google owns the no.1 feed reader in Google Reader, the great feed management tool. Google also owns a huge database containing advertisers already subscribed in AdSense, which are expected to have the extra bonus of RSS feeds ads - as the company says. More details about Google AdSense for RSS feeds and how the current advertisers and publishers will deal with it, are to be revealed next week.
