Today at All Things Digital, Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer have said a lot about the new anticipated Windows 7.
The demo was all about the most exciting feature of the new OS; multi-touch support. The demo showed several applications which heavily used multi-touch. These applications include a multi-touch piano program, a multi-touch paint application that supports drawing with ten fingers and multi-touch gestures when browsing photos, like zooming and panning with fingers. These applications are exactly the same as those in Microsoft’s Surface Table. With such features, Microsoft is coping with the latest trends of multi-touch support in a variety of devices including cell phones (specially the amazing iPhone) and remote controls.
Windows 7 has the most powerful Microsoft kernel up till now, which is called MinWin. The new OS will also natively support VHDs (Virtual Hard Disks), which is considered an excellent feature. Other features of Windows 7 are very much like those of Vista.
Windows 7 is expected to be out after 18 months with a beta release but there are rumors that it will be available next year. Everybody has great expectations for the new OS, which might make things a little harder for developers working on it.
