Ever wonder what is behind the intermittent program not responding errors? Are frequent computer freezes driving you up the wall? Without a doubt, such PC woes can get pretty frustrating. But do not toss that two- or eight-year-old computer out the window yet. The good news is – it is possible to resolve program not responding errors and applications hanging.

Program Not Responding Errors… and Possible Solutions

Most of these errors are due to conflicts over system resources, corrupt applications and/or troubles with how Windows handles particular application requirements. The second one is the easiest to manage. A simple reinstallation of the affected program is usually all that is needed to fix the problem. As for the remaining two, resolving the matter can get tricky. It depends on how a PC owner approaches the situation.

If a program you have been using keeps tossing out program not responding errors your way, you could try waiting a few minutes to see if the system is responsive again. If the program still refuses to respond, try terminating all applications running by doing this: simultaneously press CTRL-ALT-DELETE. This brings up the Task Manager window where you can click on whatever programs are unresponsive and hit “end program” to terminate them manually.

In case this still does not work, try pressing and holding down the computer’s power button for about five seconds while the system manually powers off. Press and release the power button one more time to reboot the PC. This ought to return the user to Windows.

After performing emergency manual PC shutdown, running scandisk next would be a good idea. Open My Computer then right-click on the C: drive and choose Error Check and Defragment from the options displayed. Doing so will ensure that any damage done to the file system of the hard drive gets fixed.

When it comes to program not responding errors and blue screens, flying solo is not always the best way to go, especially if you are in no way a computer expert. For non-techies, using some kind of system cleanup tool is another option. Programs like registry cleaners “sniff out” PC issues and conflicts and proceed in correcting them.

A PC that has been around for years and years is bound to slow down, become bloated with all sorts of data and increasingly unresponsive. With its advanced “age”, the computer becomes prone to pesky hangs as well as sudden freezes. Majority of operating systems crash as a result of corrupted or clogged windows registries.

So what else can be done to a PC plagued by program not responding errors and continued program non-responsiveness? Computer optimization tools and registry cleaners could be the answer. The latter goes through the system registry, searching for program not responding errors and other issues that might be causing the computer crashes and PC freeze-ups or is dramatically reducing computer speed and overall performance. Give ‘em a try!
